More and more ArtEZ students are finding a platform through We Are Public. On the cultural platform, emerging artists share their work, motivations and artistic development. Through personal interviews, videos and visual essays, they offer an insight into what inspires them and what they are currently exploring.
Varvara Pekhota, Design Art Technology, finals 2026
The latest series once again highlights the breadth of work being created by ArtEZ students, ranging from jazz and digital art to dance and performance.
Jazz & Pop - ArtEZ Academy of Music, Arnhem
Pianist, composer and Jazz & Pop student Fee Aaij shares her fascination with melancholy, impermanence and the power of art on We Are Public. In a self-directed video, she explains how her concept album I Am The Joker came to life and why sadness and beauty are inseparable in her work.
'For me, the impermanence of art is exactly where its strength lies,' says Fee. With her distinctive style, which she describes as Gloomy New Wave Jazz, she creates music that is both powerful and vulnerable.

Design Art Technology - ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Arnhem
Artist and Design Art Technology student Varvara Pekhota explores how digital infrastructures can be made visible. Her work consists of seemingly disconnected elements – bubbles, clouds, foam and plastic tubes – that together form a new visual language.
On We Are Public, Varvara takes visitors through her creative process step by step. She shows how symbols acquire new meanings when they come into contact with one another and invites viewers to make their own connections.

Artisteducator in Dance - ArtEZ Academy of Theatre & Dance Arnhem
For Chiel Guiamo, it all began with Michael Jackson's music videos. That early fascination grew into a passion for breaking and eventually developed into his own artistic practice as a dancer, maker and educator.
In his story on We Are Public, Chiel explains how dance became much more than movement alone. He explores how emotions such as frustration, vulnerability and connection can become visible through the body. At the heart of his practice is the search for a distinctive artistic voice.

Alongside Fee, Varvara and Chiel, several other ArtEZ students and alumni are also featured on We Are Public:
The collab between ArtEZ and We Are Public continues over the coming weeks. More students will be featured, each offering their own perspective on their creative process, sources of inspiration and artistic practice.
