How can classical repertoire be given meaning within a contemporary professional practice? That question lies at the heart of the finals of Classical Music Zwolle.
The answers are as diverse as the students themselves: from self-organized festivals and personal concert programmes to new compositions and innovative presentations of existing repertoire. Through their finals, students demonstrate not only their artistic development, but also their vision for the future of their profession. In doing so, they break away from the traditional recital format and explore what a contemporary professional practice can look like.
Between May and the end of June, the finals resonate across a variety of venues, ranging from established stages in Zwolle such as Stadsschouwburg Odeon, the ArtEZ Reuland Hall and Academiehuis Grote Kerk, to other performance spaces including Stadsschouwburg Deventer and Perron038. In this way, the students show how they connect tradition with their own artistic style and a contemporary approach to presentation.
