Vacature

Up-and-coming talent is looking for a musician with experience and vision.
Come and work as a teacher at the ArtEZ Academy of Music!
ArtEZ University of the Arts is home to a diverse, international community of students, faculty and researchers who find space for artistic, intellectual and personal growth at our institution. Art binds us. Art incites innovative ideas and alternative ways of thinking. Our motto is: art changes. Some 3,000 students and 900 teachers and staff learn and work at our locations in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle.
For the Jazz & Pop department in Arnhem, we are looking for a:
Percussion teacher Jazz & Pop (approx. 0.15 fte)
Starting September 2027. The exact number of hours will depend on the number of students and any additional work beyond percussion lessons.
Your main work location will be in Arnhem. Occasionally you may work at the Enschede and Zwolle locations, or the preparatory programs.
Your Work
As a percussion teacher you teach both principal and supporting subjects to students in the bachelor's program Jazz & Pop, as well as at our other programs. The expertise of the entire teaching team, including all principal and supporting subjects, is available to all students and is integrated in the Jazz & Pop Arnhem program. This program is mainly location-specific and partly location-independent. At the Arnhem Academy of Music, we collaborate with Composition for Film and Theatre and Music Theatre, the Master program, and other courses at ArtEZ, such as Fine Art, Dance, Creative Writing and Theatre. The language of instruction at Jazz & Pop in Arnhem is English. In addition to percussion lessons, you will provide lessons in band playing and advanced rhythm (with particular emphasis on Latin American and Indian rhythmical traditions). We prefer a candidate who also offers solid professional experience in contemporary musical idiom of any genre, multi-disciplinary work/collaboration, artistic development, makership, and/or technology.
The Academy
The ArtEZ Academy of Music is one of the largest conservatoires in the Netherlands and collaborates with a large number of conservatoires within and outside the European Union. Within the three locations in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle, the atmosphere is friendly and small-scale. There is a lot of personal attention and the communication lines are short. At the same time the students benefit fully from the facilities and possibilities of a large conservatoire.
The Program
ArtEZ Jazz & Pop Arnhem is explicitly positioned in the heart of ArtEZ' broad arts campus in Arnhem, featuring substantial interdisciplinary collaboration, both within the curriculum and students' personal productions. Students have a wide range of options and are strongly encouraged to customize their studies and make their own artistic choices within the fields of jazz, pop, rock, hip-hop, Latin, free improvisation, or other areas. Besides the obvious development of the craft, ArtEZ Jazz & Pop Arnhem pays much attention to the development of the students into autonomous, creative and enterprising personalities, who are aware of the social significance and role they will take in the hybrid professional field. We strive for diversity and openness in the content of the program and teaching team. We therefore welcome applicants who, from their own social or cultural background, offer a perspective that enriches the program. The program becomes more valuable and urgent when multiple perspectives are represented. We are not quite there yet, but we are working on it.
Your Profile
You have a flourishing professional practice working within improvised, popular, and other contemporary genres, in the broad sense of genre interpretation, with a particular fluency in and knowledge of Latin American musical traditions. You have considerable experience playing concerts internationally. You have solid experience in contemporary forms of creation, collaboration, and soundwork. You have experience in working with other art forms, such as dance, theatre, literature or visual arts, in your own artistic work and/or in collaboration with such artists. You have built up an international reputation as a percussionist, and you have a diverse, international network within the field. Artistically your attitude is open, curious, knowledgeable and respectful towards the plurality of expressions in the global music environment. As a teacher, you inspire our students to get the best out of themselves by coaching them towards personal and musical independence and free thinking. You do this with enthusiasm, based on your extensive experience and supported by your didactic and musical qualities. You are also prepared to invest in a new intake of students. You are perfectly capable of communicating in English, both verbally and in writing.
Our offer
You will be offered a temporary contract for the duration of one year. If you perform well, there is a possibility of extension. The gross monthly salary is a minimum of € 4.632,17 and a maximum of € 6.677,44 (job title lecturer B, scale 11) based on a 36-hour working week. In addition to an informal and open working atmosphere, we offer attractive employment conditions in accordance with the CAO-HBO.
