"How we, as humans, have separated ourselves from nature and the idea that we are part of it."
"Born out of an obsession with the fictional and a frustration with reality, 'The Valley' came into being. A comic book that tells Bell’s story. A story that runs parallel to my own as a writer. I grew up in an environment surrounded by nature. Everything your heart could desire all around you. And yet wanting nothing more than to leave the nest to see what’s going on outside the world you know. Only to soon discover that not everyone has been so fortunate. That the life that was romanticised also has its dark sides.
In ‘The Valley’, I explore the relationship between humans and nature. How we, as humans, have separated ourselves from nature and the idea that we are part of it. But although the city may seem so far removed from nature, the city itself is also an ecosystem. What happens here in the shadows? Which predators lurk in the bushes, and which prey is doing its best to stay afloat in a sea of costs?"
