Space for Introspection

The space for introspection stems from a personal interest in awareness and self-reflection. At the same time, it addresses a broader societal issue: in a world full of stimuli, distractions, and constant movement, it is becoming increasingly difficult to pause and connect with oneself.

With this design, I explore how architecture can contribute to awareness and self-reflection. Through the use of slowing down, light, materiality, and form, a spatial experience is created that invites visitors to turn inward. A ramp gradually leads the user upward through the building. As the ascent continues and the perforations in the walls gradually diminish, attention shifts away from the surroundings and toward the individual.

The route culminates beneath the glass dome, where the outside world fades into the background. Here, light, colour, and silence create a moment of wonder and tranquility. The coloured glass directs the gaze upward and reinforces the experience of presence in the moment.

By respectfully building upon the existing architecture, this design gives the building a new meaning: a place where the relationship between people, space, and awareness takes centre stage.
