Roos Marijn Wennekers’s practice focuses on intimate relationships, in which she regularly invites family members, friends and loved ones to participate in her projects. The presence or absence of connection often plays a central role in her work. She aims to shed light on the complexity of these relationships, with a particular interest in families, romantic, sexual (and work-related) relationships.
Her graduation film explores the perception on sex from young adults, stemming from her own desire of innocence and authentic exploration within intimacy. She perceives a human deficiency when it comes to our perception of sexual desires and the way it comes to life. For example, living in a time where we have endless addictive, yet effective porn sites. This made her wonder how these sources contribute to a narrative on how we potentially look at bodies and sexual acts. In her film, she seeks to question how young adults experience and perceive sexual acts.
