Misalignment is an experience-based artwork that revolves around the phenomenon of sensory conflict. The work triggers multiple senses in sync, before gradually pulling them out of alignment, leaving the viewer disoriented and emotionally activated through continuous sensory feedback.
When our senses stop matching, our usual grip on reality fades, and something beneath the surface becomes more accessible. Misalignment uses that moment of uncertainty as an invitation to become more present to hidden emotional states and depths in the mind we rarely notice in everyday life.
Misha van Rooij is a Dutch artist interested in creating experience-based works centred on disorientation and emotional confrontation through sensorial intensive environments. He creates these works to explore how conflicting perception can reveal hidden emotional states and depths. He uses light, sound, and tactile materials to create multisensory experiences that engage the viewer on both a physical and psychological level.
Find Misha's work during ArtEZ finals 2026, as part of You've Reached the Center, Please Hold exhibition, at Oude Kraan 26, Arnhem, Design Art Technology (DAT)
