Jiwoo Park (South Korea, 2003) materializes the intangible such as memories, relationships, and emotions. Visual traces originating from private narratives penetrate collective nostalgia—a facet of contemporary society—reaching toward the value of an inherent human emotional bond.
Taking the relationship between grandmother and grandchild as a core frame of reference, she captures the moment where modern nostalgia, stemming from an unstable self, ultimately finds solace through human warmth that transcends generations.
In her practice, traces of affection are embodied through specific objects that remain in memories of her grandmother. Moving beyond mere reproduction, these remnants manifest as unique forms, transformed and reconstructed through the lens of her subjective memory.
