"I discovered that presenting oneself as vulnerable is, for me, an important and indispensable aspect of love."

Brozer

"'Brozer' focuses on the themes of ‘love’ and ‘vulnerability’. These concepts are far from central to society. Society is focused on power and money rather than on gentleness, patience, kindness and emotional connection. As an artist, my aim is to remind people of how important these values are.

As well as being a visual artist, I am also a poet, and I like to incorporate my passion for poetry and language into my visual work. In my artistic practice, I explore how language becomes visual; I do this by linking the meaning of language to its form: the letters. ‘Brozer’ originated from the word ‘bozer’ (angrier), which also contains the word ‘roze’. This marked the start of the visual process, with the question of what exactly ‘lief’ (loving) is. During the artistic process, the word ‘brozer’ emerged: the superlative form of the word ‘broos’, which means ‘fragile’.
I discovered that presenting oneself as vulnerable is, for me, an important and indispensable aspect of love: it means treating the other person with respect by opening yourself up. The other person can treat you with love by respecting your vulnerability and treating you with care.

The letters of ‘Brozer’ have been coated with anti-wrinkle cream to make the tracing paper wrinkle. Make-up, such as pink blush and pink eyeshadow, is then applied to the paper to emphasise the wrinkles. Whereas cosmetics are used in everyday life to conceal imperfections, I use cosmetics to emphasise them. The letters are adorned with a floral border. In this way, sweet and fragile do not remain understated, but demand the attention they need in this world."
