"'Hidden' (video work) is about the urge to be able to hide and take refuge. This is an urge I’ve had myself since I was little: I used to hide in alcoves, under beds, in treetops and in shady corners. This urge has always stayed with me, even though I gave in to it less often. As an adult, you are expected to adhere to social norms and values.
The urge to hide is something we all experience as human beings, some more than others. The urge to be able to withdraw, to be unable to be found for a while and not have to be part of anything. All our lives we are on a quest for that which we have not been a part of since our birth: the perfect hiding place, like a snail searching for a shell. In our current world, with all its stimuli and constant online presence, this urge only grows stronger.
'Hidden' is a search for a hiding place, a place to be completely safe and concealed. The work attempts to hide using only what is available at that moment in that location. Thus, there is a constant collaboration between the artist and the environment: what the environment provides is used by the artist both to become part of the environment and to withdraw from it, in a continuous search for a place to hide."
