“Through this approach, I explore how time, loss, and change can be made visible in photography.”

Persistence of a Moment

"My work lies at the intersection of photography, journalism, art and education. As a photographer, journalist and art teacher, I work daily with a wide variety of stories I hear, each imbued with personal perspectives and memories. In this ongoing encounter, I explore how images convey meaning and how time becomes tangible within them. As David Hockney puts it: “I don’t think it’s possible to describe time. You can only show it.”

Drawing on my background in photojournalism, I have learnt to look closely, not just at what is visible, but specifically at what lies behind it: silence, traces of memory and subtle shifts in identity. I therefore do not see photography as the capture of a single moment, but as a process that continues to evolve over time.

In my work, images are fragmented, reframed and reimagined. What initially seemed clear slowly shifts in meaning. Sometimes only a contour or a memory remains. Through this approach, I explore how time, loss and change can become visible within photography.

My practice aligns with a contemporary approach to photography in which images no longer function as objective evidence, but as a space in which concepts such as memory, identity and imagination are in constant flux. Time does not appear as something linear, but as an inner movement in which past and present continue to intertwine.

In contrast to a fast-paced and fleeting visual culture, my work calls for a slower pace and attention. The fragments and thread-like structures in my images function as traces of presence: remnants of what was once visible, but never completely disappears."
