Useful tips for your music audition

Video by Kunstbende (in Dutch).

Tip 1: Read up on the audition process

Every programme has its own audition process, so make sure you know what to expect. You can find detailed information on the programme pages.

Tip 2: Get ahead where you can

See what you can prepare in advance. If you know what each round involves, you can start working on upcoming assignments early. Sometimes audition days are scheduled close together, so having some extra preparation time can really help. Starting early also takes away a lot of unnecessary stress.

Tip 3: Show a broad picture of who you are

Try to include a variety of work in your preparation. This helps the assessment committee get a clear and complete picture of your skills, interests and potential.

Tip 4: Practise, practise, practise

The more you practise, the more confident you'll feel. Focus not only on the practical side, but also on any theory that may be part of the audition. You can practise on your own or with someone else.

Tip 5: Enjoy it!

Do you already need to be really good to audition? It's a question we hear a lot. The answer is no. Having a solid foundation is helpful, but what's more important is that you have a good ear, enjoy making music and are eager to learn. We're looking for motivated people who want to develop themselves as musicians.
