Imae is a socially engaged master's programme that brings together artists, educators and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. The programme explores how artistic, educational and research practices can respond to urgent social questions and contribute to processes of change.

At the heart of iMAE is learning how to engage with people, places and the world around us. Students are continually invited to question their own position, assumptions and responsibilities. This is issues based art education, which is also the methodoligical foundation of UCAL (Unesco Chair Centre for Arts and Learning) our sister organization.

The academic year is organized around two phases, each taking the form of a Site-Specific College. Phase 1 takes place in Arnhem where students were partnered with Kickboxing Arnhem, Museum Arnhem, Groen Arnhem, Bronbeek, Presikhaaf University and InDifferent.

In Phase 2, the programme temporarily relocates to another context, this year students partnered with Darna, the Donkey Museum and Cinema Rif in Tangier, Morocco. Each Site-Specific college begings with situated inquiry rather than a predetermined outcome.

The works presented here cary tracess of these processes. Together, they show the different ways in which students have responded to the questions, relationships and conditions they encountered. Special thanks to all the partners involved this year who made the work possible.
